WINE RIVER CRUISE IN FRANCE

This month I had the unique opportunity to experience a first class river cruise on AmaWaterways. As an AmaWaterways specialist, I wanted to experience their wine-themed river cruise, first hand through one of their unique wine regions. I chose the "Taste of Bordeaux" cruise, a 7-night sailing on the Garonne and the Dordogne Rivers – one of the undisputed wine capitals in the world. Being a wine-themed cruise, our journey was hosted by a unique wine maker from southern Oregon, Kriselle Cellars.

This was an incredible experience cruising through one of the world’s most distinguished and renowned appellations of Medoc. We started our journey in Bordeaux sailing up the Left Bank of the Garonne and Gironde estuary then down the Right Bank the Dordogne. The AmaWaterways all-inclusive shore excursions included visits and tastings of Grand Cru Classe and 1st Cru wines in the elite wine regions of Pauillac, Pomerol, Saint Emilion, and Sauternes.

Along our journey, we saw magnificent and historic chateaus, beautiful vineyards and stunning scenery, while enjoying regionally-inspired La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs fine dining and special on-board wine tastings by our wine host, Kriselle Cellars. The size of the ship, only 130 passengers, afforded us the unique opportunity to meet many new people and make new friends – friends that we continue to keep in touch with. The intimacy of the vessel, luxury accommodations, top-notch itinerary, and the care and dedication of the Cruise Director and the entire crew made this a truly unforgettable experience.
